Pat Kelsey Winthrop Eagles UCLA Offense
Attached are two UCLA High Offense options from Winthrop Head Coach Pat Kelsey. In using these plays, the type of wing entry dictates which option will be used. A pass to the wing initiates option 1, and a hand-off initiates option 2. These UCLA High Offense options can also be combined to create a continuity ball-screen/hand-off offense.
Pat Kelsey Winthrop Eagles UCLA High Offense Options – Option 1 (Pass to Wing)
In option 1, 2 cuts down to the low post then cuts back to the wing off of a screen from 4. 1 passes to 2. Once 2 has the ball, 3 cuts through to the corner. After passing to 2, 1 flares off of a screen from 5. 5 then steps over to set the ball-screen for 2. 5 rolls to the basket and 4 replaces 5. If nothing is open, 2 can either pass (option 1) or hand-off (option 2) to 1 and start the play again.
Pat Kelsey Winthrop Eagles UCLA High Offense Options – Option 2 (Hand-Off)
In option 2, 2 isn’t open off of the cut and instead of passing to the wing 1 dribbles over to give the ball to 2 on a dribble hand-off. 3 cuts through to the corner. Once the hand-off is made, 4 clears out to the opposite corner. 5 steps over to set the ball-screen for 2. 5 rolls to the basket, and 3 replaces 5. Again, if nothing is open 2 can pass or hand-off to 4 which restarts the play.
