Attached are 4 options out of the 1-4 high set from former Iowa State Head Coach Fred Hoiberg. In these 4 plays, Hoiberg keeps it simple and allows his offense to read the defenders.

Fred Hoiberg Iowa State Cyclones 1-4 High Offense – Back Cut

In this play, 1 dribbles to the left wing and gives the ball to 3 on a dribble hand-off. Once 3 has the ball, he dribbles toward the lane looking to beat his man to the basket or space for a shot. If he doesn’t have a shot he passes to 4 who is popping out from the elbow. 4 looks to shoot, but if the shot isn’t there he dribbles toward 2 as if he is going to give 2 the ball on a dribble hand-off. 2 steps toward 4 then makes a hard cut to the basket. 4 passes to 2 for the score.

3 cuts off of a screen from 5 to the opposite wing. At the same time, 2 cuts down to the opposite low post. After 3 clears the screen, 5 steps out for a 3-point shot. If 5 doesn’t have a shot, he looks to pass inside to 2.

1 passes to 2 on the wing and 5 screens for 3. 3 moves up the wing and 5 drops to the corner. 1 cuts through the lane looking for the pass back from 2. If 1 isn’t open, 2 passes to 4 who dribbles over and gives the ball to 3 on a dribble hand-off. 3 looks to attack the basket and if he doesn’t have a shot he looks for 2 sliding to the corner.

1 dribbles toward the right wing as 5 steps out to set a screen for 2. With all the attention on the right side of the floor, 4 spins and makes a quick cut to the basket for a lob pass from 1.
