Horns Set Plays with Ball-Screen Options

Horns Set Plays with Ball-Screen Options

The horns set plays are one of my favorite to use. If you have a point guard that can create shots for himself, the horns set allows him the space to do so. Bringing your post players high also puts the post defenders in an uncomfortable guarding position. With the post players above the elbows and the guards in the corners, it makes the defense feel like the lane and basket are unguarded. Each of these plays starts with a high staggered ball-screen from the post players. This initial look for each play is for the point guard to make a play. Your point guard should look to drive to the basket off of the staggered ball-screen or create space for a shot. If he doesn’t have a shot or drive, each option presents a different way to attack the defense.

Horns Set Plays with Staggered Ball-Screen Options – Screen the Screener

1 dribbles toward the left wing then dribbles back to the right off of a staggered ball-screen from 5 and 4. 2 moves in from the corner to the low post. If 1 doesn’t have a shot, 2 sets a back-screen for 5 who cuts to the basket. If 5 isn’t open, 4 screens down for 2 who pops up for a shot.

Horns Set Plays with Staggered Ball-Screen Options – Lob

After the staggered ball-screen at the top, 5 and 3 move in to set a screen for 4. 4 curls around the screen and looks for the lob pass from 1.

Horns Set Plays with Staggered Ball-Screen Options – Flare

After the staggered ball-screen at the top, 5 sets a flare screen for 4. 4 flares to the wing and 1 looks to make the skip pass to 4 for a shot.

Horns Set Plays with Staggered Ball-Screen Options – Corner Stagger

After 1 clears the staggered ball-screen at the top, 5 and 4 move down toward the corner and set a second staggered screen for 3. 3 cuts up for a shot.
