Lonnie Porter Regis Rangers Ball-Screen Offense

Attached is a ball-screen offense used by former Regis Rangers (CO) head coach Lonnie Porter. Porter coached 38 seasons at Regis University in Denver, CO. In 37 years, he has compiled a 533-482 record. His success at Regis has placed him 10th amongst active D2 coaches in wins and 31st all-time for D2 wins. Porter was also a star player in Colorado. He played at conference rival Adams State where he scored over 1,600 points in his career. To get his coaching start, he started at Grove Junior High School and then Manual High School working his way up. He then left the high school game to become an assistant at the University of Nebraska. After 5 years in Lincoln, he was hired as the head coach of Regis. We played Regis in 2014 and I was very impressed with his team’s execution and intensity. This offense is what they use the most, but out of it they will run different actions using the side ball-screens to counter defensive coverages.

If nothing is there, 2 passes to 5 who passes to 1. 5 follows the pass to set a wing ball-screen for 1. 1 drives middle, 5 rolls, and 4 elevates to the lane line extended. Lonnie Porter Regis Rangers Ball-Screen Offense – Push Entry
The offense can also be started with a dribble push entry if the guards are being denied. 1 dribbles to the wing and pushes the wing player across the baseline. 1 then uses the side ball-screen from 4.

Lonnie Porter Regis Rangers Ball-Screen Offense – Hand-Off Entry
Regis also uses a hand-off to get into the offense. 1 gives the ball to 2 on a dribble hand-off then becomes the cutter. 2 uses the side ball-screen from 4.
