Steve Kerr Golden State Warriors Horns Options by Wes Kosel
Attached are three horns options used by Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. The Warriors jumped from 51 wins in 2013-2014 to 67 wins in 2014-2015 and are on track to beat that this season. In these horns options, Kerr uses quick-hitting actions to get open shots for his best shooters (Curry and Thompson). As it has been all season, Curry & Thompson have always been willing to make the extra pass for an open shot. These options are included in the plays as well.
Steve Kerr Golden State Warriors Horns Options – Horns Baseline Cross
In this play, Curry starts in the right corner. The point guard dribbles right then left off of a staggered ball-screen from 5 and 4. As 1 dribbles left, 4 rolls into the lane and 3 sets a cross-screen for 2. 1 looks to hit 4 at the elbow or pass to Curry in the corner for a shot.
Steve Kerr Golden State Warriors Horns Options – Horns Clear Post Cross
1 passes to 5 at the high post then makes a cut to the basket off of a screen from 4. If 1 isn’t open, 1, 2, and 3 clear to the left side of the floor as 4 screens for 5.
Steve Kerr Golden State Warriors Horns Options – Horns Down Entry
In this play, 4 screens down for 5. Both sprint up to set a ball-screen for 1. 1 dribbles off of one of the ball-screens. Whichever way he chooses, the ball-side screen rolls and the opposite screen pops.
