ASC Division III Playbook

ASC Division III Playbook by Wes Kosel

Attached in this playbook are 8 plays from 3 American Southwest Conference teams (2 former and 1 current). The first four plays are from former Schreiner University Head Coach Jimmy Smith. In his two seasons at Schreiner, he won 26 games. In his first season at Texas Lutheran, Smith led the Bulldogs to a SCAC Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance. The next two plays are from Mary Hardin-Baylor Head Coach Ken DeWeese. DeWeese is in his 18th season as head coach at UMHB and has won over 300 games. Jimmy Smith played for DeWeese at UMHB and served as an assistant before taking the job at Schreiner. The last two plays are from former Texas Lutheran Head Coach Tommy Jones. I worked for Tommy Jones for two seasons at TLU from 2012-2014. Jones coached at TLU for 7 seasons and was the head coach at Houston Baptist in the 1980’s. Jones and DeWeese worked together at Texas-El Paso under the legendary Don Haskins. Both Schreiner and TLU left the ASC and joined the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in 2013. The ASC now has 13 members spanning Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas.

ASC Members: Belhaven University, Concordia University Texas, East Texas Baptist University, Hardin-Simmons University, Howard Payne University, LeTourneau University, Louisiana College, University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, McMurry University, University of the Ozarks, Sul Ross State University, University of Texas at Dallas, and University of Texas at Tyler.
