LSU Set Plays by Tom Kelsey

LSU Set Plays

Here is an issue of LSU’s newsletter with four set plays. LSU Head Coach Johnny Jones is entering his 4th season as head coach of LSU and 16th overall. In 15 years, he has won 266 games including 61 at LSU. The Tigers have improved on their win total each year that Jones has been there.

LSU Set Plays – Down

1 dribbles right off of a screen from 4 as 5 slips behind a back-screen from 2 and 3. 1 looks inside to 5 or can pass to 2 cutting up for a shot.

LSU Set Plays – Celtics

In this horns set play, 1 dribbles left then back towards the middle as 3 cuts off of a staggered screen from 4 and 5. If 2 isn’t open, 4 cuts off of 5’s screen looking for a shot at the elbow. If that isn’t open, 3 looks to drive as 2 cuts off of a staggered screen and 1 spots up for a shot.

LSU Set Plays – Bronco

1 dribbles to the right wing as 2 and 3 cut to the blocks. 5 and 4 then screen down for 2 and 3. 1 passes to 2 who passes to 3. 5 sets a flare-screen for 2. If 2 doesn’t have a shot, 5 screens across the lane for 4.

LSU Set Plays – Hawks

1 passes to 4 then cuts through to the corner. 4 gives the ball to 3 on a dribble hand-off. 3 drives middle looking to score.
