Here are two plays from Chicago Bulls Head Coach Tom Thibodeau. Thibodeau is in his 5th year as headcoach of the Chicago Bulls. In 4 seasons, he has compiled a 205-107 record, two first place finishes in theEastern Conference Central Division, and 4 playoff appearances. His 2010-2011 Bulls made it to theconference finals before losing to Miami in five games. Before taking over in Chicago, Thibodeau servedas an assistant for the Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, SanAntonio Spurs, and Minnesota Timberwolves. In 2008, he was an assistant coach for Boston when theCeltics won the NBA Championship. He served as an assistant for Jerry Tarkanian, John Lucas, Jeff VanGundy, and Doc Rivers. Before coaching in the NBA, Thibodeau got his coaching start at his alma mater,Salem State, as an assistant coach. He then was the head coach for a season before joining Harvard asan assistant coach. He made the jump into the NBA in 1989 with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In this option, 1 dribbles towards 3 on the wing sending 3 across the floor to cut off of a staggeredscreen from 2 and 4. 1 looks to pass to 3 on the cut, but if 3 isn’t open he stops under the basket thenchooses whether to use the staggered screen or the single screen. If he uses the staggered screen, 1looks to pass to 3 on the wing for a shot. If 3 uses the single screen, 4 sets a flare screen for 2. 1 looks topass to 3 or 2.
Tom Thibodeau Chicago Bulls Offense – Secondary Hand-Off for Rose
This play was used to make Derek Rose’s defender chase him around the court. The end result was Rosewith an easy lay-up. The play starts with 1 (Rose) passing to 4 then moving to the corner. 4 passes to 3then screens down for 2. 2 gets the ball from 3 then reverses it to 4. 2 then loops around 4 looking for ahand-off. Rose cuts across the baseline off of a staggered screen from 5 and 3. If he isn’t open on thecut, Rose continues towards 4 to get the ball on a dribble hand-off. Rose attacks the rim as 4 rolls to thebasket and 5 replaces 4.
